Celebrating Diwali in New Zealand

Today is a special day for me. I am celebrating the festival of lights also known as Diwali. It is held every year in late October or early November to celebrate the beginning of the Indian New Year. Yesterday I helped my mum to bake Indian sweets. Today I got up very early. My family and I prayed together. I got dressed in my colourful Indian outfit and went to school. Hindu children in some parts of the world do not go to school. They stay at home. They get to light fireworks in the night. In the evening mum will light clay lamps. This shows the good over evil and light over darkness. I wish the Hindu people a HAPPY DIWALI.
